Megha Desai & Bhavini Mehta
Megha Desai holds a degree in Commerce and Law from Gujarat University India and has undergone the Senior Management Development Programme from the Indian Institute of Management (IIMA), Ahmedabad. Before joining the Self Employed Women’s Association – SEWA, in Ahmedabad, she has worked as Senior Research Analyst with the Center for International Financial Analysis and Research Inc., USA’ Indian subsidiary for 9 years. She has also worked as Programme Manager for leadership Development programme in education field in India. She is working with SEWA since last 10 years, currently holding post of Coordinator of programme for rebuilding lives of war affected sisters in Sri Lanka.
She has stepped out from the career of financial research in 2003 to work with the poor destitute women of Self Employed Women’s Association in India. She started her career providing technical support to help sisters in their economic empowerment and then directly worked with disaster affected sisters and riots affected widows in Gujarat since last 10 years. She has worked directly in war zones with the war affected widows and sisters of Afghanistan and Sri Lanka for rebuilding their lives through economic empowerment for 8 years. Her area of expertise is feasibility studies, skills development, providing enabling environment and provide handholding support and guidance to set up value chain and start the business with linkages of bank, market, government etc. There she has led the initiative for rebuilding war-torn Afghanistan that enabled more than 1300 Afghan sisters, 1000 Sri Lankan sisters to achieve economic empowerment. ABCD approach has remained at core in the development processes.
She has worked on various capacities starting from coordinator in Technical and Management Consultancy unit of SEWA, planning and monitoring coordinator of disaster affected programmes to project coordinator and Sr. Project Coordinator for projects in areas of skill building, peace building, livelihoods, and economic empowerment. She has been working on managerial level since last 9 years in social development field.
I am working in the capacity of a training coordinator. I am conducting many types of managerial trainings, involved in arranging workshops, and content development. I have also conducted many trainings and workshops for National as well as International teams. In SEWA; I got multiple opportunities to participate in various trainings, workshops, and conferences to build my capacity. Few remarkable trainings and workshop I attended are as follows: o Training on “Train the Trainers”, o Time management training from Ahmedabad Management Association (AMA), o Training for “field staff of Community Based Organization”, o Training on “Communication Skill & Personality Development”, o Team Building, o Rural Marketing, from Ahmedabad Management Association (AMA), o We went to give training at ACTED Afghanistan for grassroot women o Attend 3 day Workshop on Brand Building for NGOs at S.P. Jain Institute . I have undergone marketing training under ABCD approach at Coady in 2017 and based on learning we developed training on ABCD approach for our grassroots trainees.
